Ice Flyers Welcome Curtis Mosely as Equipment Manager
PENSACOLA, FLA. – The Pensacola Ice Flyers have named Curtis Mosely the team’s new equipment manager.
“We’re excited to welcome Curtis to the Ice Flyers,” Head Coach Jeremy Gates said. “Curtis brings valuable experience to our organization, including time as a head equipment manager in the ECHL, as well as the organizational skills he acquired while serving in our military.
“He has a strong understanding of what it takes to keep a professional hockey team prepared and operating efficiently throughout a demanding season. His attention to detail, organization, work ethic and commitment to taking care of our players and their equipment will be extremely important to our team. I’m confident Curtis will do an outstanding job here and be a great addition to our staff.”
Mosely joins the Ice Flyers after building a career that combines professional hockey experience with 24 years of service in the United States Army. During his military career, he worked in logistics at levels ranging from supporting a small company to overseeing operations across much of Germany.
“My time in Army logistics gave me an understanding of supplying what is needed to support the mission,” Mosely said. “That transitions easily into the hockey world. My job is to support the players so they can perform at their best every time they step on the ice.”
The discipline, preparation and adaptability Mosely developed in the Army now guide his work in hockey. His responsibilities include maintaining equipment, sharpening skates, preparing uniforms, organizing the locker room and addressing problems before they become distractions for players and coaches.
Mosely’s approach is especially valuable during road trips, when the team must operate with limited space, time and resources. He still uses the military practice of Pre-Combat Checks and Pre-Combat Inspections to confirm everything has been packed and is ready for use.
“Once you’re on the road, you can’t run back to the equipment room if something was forgotten,” Mosely said. “You have to be organized, double-check everything and think ahead.”
Mosely began playing hockey at 16 and continued playing while stationed in Germany. He later became involved in the professional game through freelance hockey photography, which helped him build relationships and opened the door to his first equipment manager position.
During his first season in professional hockey, Mosely helped the Watertown Wolves capture a league championship. The experience reinforced his belief that trust and strong relationships are essential to building a successful team.
He approaches his work through what he calls the “three Ps”: persistence, purpose and passion.
“Those three things drive you to be the best you can be, not to make yourself look good, but because others are depending on you,” Mosely said. “The players and staff are my ‘why.’”
Away from the rink, Mosely is a scuba instructor and third-degree black belt in jiu-jitsu. He is looking forward to exploring the Gulf Coast and becoming part of the Pensacola community.
“The opportunity with the Ice Flyers felt like a great fit for my experience and where I am in my career,” Mosely said. “I’m excited to bring my background to Pensacola, build relationships and become part of the next chapter of Ice Flyers hockey. I want the players and staff to know that I’m here to work hard, support them and be someone they can depend on. At the end of the day, I’ve got their back.”
